It’s a little known fact that Julius Caesar did not die from stab wounds by Brutus, but rather he was poisoned. At the huge banquet on that fateful ides of March, Brutus slipped some poisonous hemlock leaves onto Julius’s salad. (This was the world’s first Caesar’s salad.) When Julius slumped over into his salad, Brutus feigned concern and asked: “My dear friend Julius, how many hemlock leaves have you eaten?” To which Julius gasped in reply, “Ate two, Brutus.”

Since CBS is linking to the YouTube “Hide The Decline” it got me wondering about the original lyrics and Tree Hugging and a dog named Sam that likes purple flowers…

Being old enough to remember the original Tommy James and The Shondells song, I was singing the real lyrics while listening to the M4GW version.

It did get me thinking about his dog named Sam that likes purple flowers.

Some say “Draggin’ The Line” has to do with having a positive outlook while working hard and living a normal daily life. Some say it has do with God or drugs. Some have a lot to say about Tommy James’ hit “Crimson and Clover.” It was the 1960’s and there were a lot of undercover drug-related lyrics after all.

DRAGGIN’ THE LINE
Tommy James

Makin’ a living the old hard way
Takin’ and giving by day by day
I dig snow and rain and bright sunshine
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
My dog Sam eats purple flowers
We ain’t got much but what we got’s ours
We dig snow and rain and bright sunshine
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
I feel fine I’m talkin’ bout peace of mind
I’m gonna take my time I’m gettin’ the good sign
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
Loving the free and feelin’ spirit
Of huggin’ a tree when you get near it
Diggin’ the snow and rain and bright sunshine
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
I feel fine I’m talkin’ bout peace of mind
I’m gonna take my time I’m gettin’ the good sign
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)
Draggin’ the line (draggin’ the line)…..

I don’t know.

But I love the tree hugging and purple flower parts.

And God can be found wherever you seek Him.

Santas Demand Swine Flu Vaccination

From Asylum:

The Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas (AORBS) has called for costumed Santas to be put on the priority list for swine flu vaccine shots. Apparently, the standard flask of gin concealed in a Santa suit just doesn’t have the germ-killing power to defeat H1N1.

“I have heard across the country numerous Santas who have actually had the swine flu, but I have not heard reports back of any of our Santas being able to get the swine flu shot as of yet,” said AORBS president Nicholas Trolli.

Trolli said he wants swine flu shots to protect not only the Santas but to protect the public. In the meantime, he is urging Santas to take vitamins and use hand sanitizer (Santa-izer?).

Another Santa group, Santa America, said they will require their Santas to wash their suits daily instead of once a week and dispense with white gloves so Santas can wash their hands more frequently.

And coming soon to a mall near you, the hermetically-sealed Santa chamber. Merry Christmas, kids!
